My name is Deb Milera, I am a Proud & Strong Narrunga Woman, my people come for the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. I am currently working as a Family Violence Counsellor in a Men’s Behavioural Change Program in Ballarat, Victoria. I am a longstanding voluntary member of the Grampians Indigenous Family Violence Action Group. There are ten of these community led groups set up in Victoria. These groups run positive initiatives within their communities to prevent, raise awareness & eventually stop Family Violence.
I am a person of action and following through on my beliefs. I have been a part of many positive projects for change such as the Victoria Police Media Campaign, Family Violence Camps, the creation of the “Families are Forever CD”, #walktogether video. I have been a guest speaker at many forums, such as Leadership Ballarat & Communities of Respect & Equality.
I have professionally worked in the Family Violence area for the past 14 years & always emphasise the need to use a holistic, cultural and community approach.
I am very committed & passionate about social justice advocacy (in particular for Indigenous Australians) and working towards creating positive change in the family violence area.
