Gail Telford is a Counsellor and Family Therapist working in a Family Violence Intervention Program in regional Australia. She has the privilege of collaborating with a team of professionals who are dedicated to gender equity and the prevention of violence against women. Gail has many roles in the program, as she attends to and honours the stories of resistance of women and children who have been harmed by violence. Her counselling practice is informed by Response-Based ideas, which she uses in her work with men who have harmed family members. She provides a Systemic, Response-Based, and Anti-Oppressive supervision model for colleagues working in the field.
Gail is committed to the struggles against oppression and injustice and to the promotion of equality. Accordingly, her involvement within her community in social justice advocacy and activism has been diverse and long standing. As a young adult she worked with a group of enthusiastic people who supported teenagers who were unable to live at home and as a member of a feminist collective, campaigned for the rights of single mothers who had their babies removed from their care at birth. Her professional work experience includes Psychiatric Nursing, Crisis Counselling and Supervision, Specialist Family Violence Training, Women’s and Children’s Counselling, Facilitation of Women’s Support Groups and Men’s Behaviour Change Groups.
