Peter Söderström's area of expertise is gender equality, with a focus on men´s violence against women and children. He is particularly concerned with gender transformative violence prevention and a critical masculinity perspective. His main working areas have been strategic and analytical work, structured cooperation between authorities, developing and implementing different kinds of training activities and training material, investigation and supervision. Peter has a Degree in Recreation Instructor Training and a Masters of Social Science with a major in sociology.
He spent the ﬁrst 8 years after completing his studies working with abused children at the Child and Youth Psychiatric Clinic in Boden and Gothenburg, Sweden. He has worked since 2000 as an advocate for gender equality, with a focus on men´s violence against women and children. He has been employed as an Project Leader and Investigator by the County Administrative Board in Västerbotten County, as Expert and Secretary at the Government Ofﬁce of Sweden, as Investigator and Development Leader at the County Council of Västerbotten, and as Educator at the National Centre for Knowledge on Men´s violence Against Women in Uppsala. He has spent the last six years working with strategic development and training at the NGO, Men for Gender Equality in Stockholm. A central part during these years have been to ﬁnding different ways of creating conditions for cooperation between key stakeholders on an local, national as well as international level with the goal to develop the gender transformative violence prevention ﬁeld.
Since early 2007, Peter has also worked part-time as a Consultant in gender equality related issues, on an regional, national and international level. One of his latest missions was as an Expert in the Government investigation on developing a national strategy on men´s violence against women 2016. Together with two partners, he recently have initiated Another Development Foundation (http://anotherdevelopmentfoundation.se/), a foundation promoting a sustainable, peaceful world free from violence.
